Detroit Chapter, Albanian American National Organization (AANO)

The Detroit Chapter is one of nine local chapters of the Albanian American National Organization (AANO), a non-religious, non-political federation founded on December 15, 1946 by 27 delegates from nine U.S. cities and chartered in the State of New York in 1951. Alongside Detroit, AANO's chapters cover Albany, Boston, Bridgeport, Chicago, Clearwater, New York, Toronto, and Worcester.

AANO describes its purpose as perpetuating and celebrating Albanian heritage in North America, and the Detroit Chapter operates within that federation framework rather than as a separate national program. The national body supports the academic work of Albanian-American college students through annual scholarships, publishes a periodical called Trumbeta, and holds an annual convention — with the 78th annual convention scheduled for 2026.
