Before you go, one short announcement. The U.S. Census records about 230,000 Albanian Americans. Our own organizations put the real number closer to a million.
That gap matters, because those numbers decide how much attention and funding our community gets. The National Albanian Registry is a community count, run by Albanians, free, and it takes about two minutes.
There are cards at the door with a code you can scan with your phone. If you are Albanian, or your parents or grandparents were, please get counted, and bring your family in on it.

If someone asks why now
There is no Albanian checkbox on the census form. The only way an Albanian is recorded as Albanian is a write-in line most people skip, which is a large part of why the official number sits where it does.
The 2030 Census is being designed now, and a 2024 federal rule change means detailed write-in answers must be published for the first time. Communities that organized around that line, Armenian and Arab American groups among them, moved their numbers. No organized Albanian effort has ever existed.
