Albanian American Student Organization (AASO) Global

The Albanian American Student Organization (AASO) Global is a non-profit founded in 1998 in Detroit by Albanian-American students at Wayne State University. It serves as the national umbrella for Albanian-American university student chapters, with roughly 12 chapters across Michigan and a footprint that has grown to include campuses in Texas, Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania, plus affiliates in Toronto and Australia.

The organization's stated mission is to foster a sense of camaraderie among members, promote Albanian cultural awareness and appreciation, and serve the community while supporting higher education. In practice that means social events, fundraising, volunteering, leadership seminars, and networking opportunities aimed at Albanian-American college students and the wider diaspora.

AASO Global's roots remain in metro Detroit, and its public-facing activity reflects that base — including community nights tied to Detroit institutions like an Albanian American Student Organization Night with the Detroit Pistons. Individual campus chapters, such as the one at the University of Michigan, run their own service and outreach programming under the broader AASO identity.
