Why you: I’m passionate about reconnecting with my Albanian roots, improving my language, and building real connections in the community. I believe if we come together, we’re stronger. I’m already taking action — I’m starting an Albanian American Association at Wilmington University, I’m an active member of Albanian Roots, and I regularly attend community parades and events. I’m also someone who follows through. I’m graduating from Wilmington University this year and heading to dental school to become a dentist and surgeon. Right now I’m balancing a very demanding schedule: school three days a week, interning at a maxillofacial surgeon’s office two days a week, and working my other two days — yet I’m still making time for community work. Why now: Delaware’s Albanian community is still very small — only a few families. This is the perfect time to build something meaningful from the ground up before it grows larger. As someone already living here and deeply tied to both the cultural and business side of the Albanian community, I’m in a strong position to help unite and grow our presence in the state. First 90 days: In my first 90 days, I would focus on reaching out to every Albanian family and professional in Delaware, officially launch the Albanian American Association at my university, and organize a small meet-and-greet so our community members can actually connect with each other in person. References: Entela Lynch (Zhegra family), Marko Kepi (President of Albanian Roots), Victor McCrory Dobro (actor in The Punisher, Landman, The Lady in the Lake, and World War II Operation Phoenix).

vs. ACS

As Delaware's Albanian community becomes visible in the data systems institutions actually use, the recognition story gets stronger — for bilingual-ballot petitions in jurisdictions with significant limited-English Albanian populations, for hospital interpreter staffing, for school home-language reporting, and for university heritage programs. None of these unlock automatically from a count; they come from sustained organizing on top of one. The Census ACS stays the official federal source; NAR builds the parallel community count alongside it.

Delaware ranks in the published ACS Albanian-ancestry counts at 200 (2024). Nationwide the Census counts 224,000 Albanian Americans while community estimates put us close to a million — and the same gap shows up here. NAR is the community-led parallel count that sits alongside the ACS, one self-attestation at a time.
