Albanian festivals across the US
The U.S. Census counts 224,000 Albanian Americans. The real number is close to a million.
There's no single national festival on one date. The calendar is a set of recurring local gatherings, and two kinds anchor it.
November · the whole diaspora
Festa e Flamurit
Flag Day, around November 28 — the day Ismail Qemali raised the flag at Vlorë in 1912. The single most widely observed date across the diaspora: a flag-raising, the anthem, folk dance, and a long program of speeches.
Spring & summer · open to all
The food festival
A newer, more public-facing tradition. The clearest example is Byrek Fest in the Chicago area, built to introduce Albanian food and music to neighbors as much as to gather the community.

What to expect when you walk in
A flag-raising and the anthem · valle danced in a hand-linked circle · live çifteli · folk dress · and a great deal of food. Most events welcome non-Albanian guests — showing up is treated as a good sign.

FAQ
Common questions
When is the Albanian festival in 2026?
There is no single national Albanian festival on one fixed date. The two anchors are Festa e Flamurit (Flag Day, around November 28) and a cluster of spring and summer food festivals such as Byrek Fest in the Chicago area (around early June). Dates shift year to year, so check the live event page for your state.
What happens at an Albanian festival?
Expect a flag, the national anthem, folk dance (valle, danced in a hand-linked circle), live music on the çifteli, folk dress, and a lot of food — byrek, grilled meats, and raki toasts. Many events double as fundraisers, so there is usually a door donation or a ticket.
Are Albanian festivals open to non-Albanians?
Most are. Parish feasts, Flag Day dinners, and food festivals like Byrek Fest are generally open to the public, and the community tends to treat curious guests as a good sign. When in doubt, the event page or hosting organization can confirm whether tickets are required.
How do I find an Albanian event near me?
Start with the state you live in. The largest populations are in New York, Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida, New Jersey, Illinois, and Connecticut, with growing communities in Pennsylvania, Texas, California, and Ohio. The events directory is organized by state. Parishes and local Albanian associations are the other reliable source.
